For the first time in history, Marvel has presented the first Asian Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are 5 fun facts you didn’t know about the newest Marvel film ‘Shang-Chi’s’ actor Simu Liu!

2) Simu Liu was best known for starring in the Canadian sitcom Kim’s Convenience.

Before his role in Shang-Chi, Liu was most known for his role as Jung in Kim’s Convenience, a sitcom that revolved around the life of a Korean-Canadian family dealing with life as shop owners. It’s pretty cool to see how he progressed from an Asian American tv sitcom
series to become the first Asian lead Marvel superhero!

3) He was a finance and accounting major.

Throughout Simu Liu’s life he had always thought that he was going to be an accountant and work in an office until one day he was laid off which guided him to a newer passion, acting. Liu found the accounting environment very hard on him and realized that it wasn’t the place that he wanted to be for the rest of his life. Once he realized he wanted a change in direction, he went onto Craigslist and applied to be an extra and from then on worked extremely hard to pursue his acting career.

4) Liu was a stock photo model in the early days of his career.

It’s hard to believe but there is a high chance that you might have seen Simu Liu on your accounting textbook or on an ad around town. Previous to his acting career, Liu
was a stock photo model, and since his increased fame from Shang-Chi, more fans have noticed his face from his old stock photo days. To his shock, most of his stock photos ended up being on the front page of accounting textbooks which is very ironic since he his accounting days weren’t his most memorable.

5) He is an avid boba drinker and had to give it up in order to get fit for the role as Shang-Chi.

Simu Liu is probably one of the most avid boba drinkers there is and his love for boba had to come to an end when he started training for the film. When ordering delivery online, he could never justify ordering just one for the price of the delivery fee so he would order two instead, even better right!
