Promising Young Woman filmmaker Emerald Fennell is set to write a Zatanna movie. Here are five actresses who are potentially perfect for the part!

At long last Zatanna is finally coming to the DCEU! Warner Brothers and Bad Robot announced that Emerald Fennell who directed and wrote this year’s Oscar darling Promising Young Woman will be writing Zatanna’s first feature. Zatanna’s introduction into this universe will likely coincide with the Justice League Dark films which Zatanna is a prominent figure in. Fans are incredibly excited to see how Zatanna and her magic powers will change the state of the DC extended universe, so excited in fact that rumors of who will be playing the magician are already circulating. Here are five fan favorite choices to take on Zatanna. 

Ana De Armas 

One of the most popular fan-casts seems to be that of Ana De Armas. After her breakout role as the AI Joi in Blade Runner 2049, many have selected Ana as their top pick for the part.  The Cuban actress has more than proven herself as a more than capable leading lady in Rain Johnson’s Knives Out and is even carving out an action career with her role in the newest James Bond Flick No Time to Die. Fans on Twitter have already done the work of getting Ana into the iconic Zatanna costume and we can totally see this being her next big project!

Anya Chalotra

Fans of fantasy television will definitely recognize Anya Chalotra. The British and Indian actress found her first major onscreen role as Yennefer of Vengerberg in the Netflix fantasy drama The Witcher and became an instant sensation. Her confident and mysterious performance as Yennefer has gained the twenty-four year old actress many dedicated fans. It is those fans that are campaigning for Chalotra to take on the part of Zatanna. Afterall, Anya Chalotra is no stranger to using magic on the big screen or taking part in complicated action packed roles. 

Eiza González

Eiza González has made a name for herself in Hollywood by taking on many supporting roles in films like Baby Driver or the television series From Dusk till Dawn. However, fans want to see the Mexican actress as the lead and believe the upcoming Zatanna film is a perfect opportunity. Eiza has proven her grit in action flicks like The Fast and the Furious spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw or the more cyberpunk Alita: Battle Angel. She definitely has what it takes to don Zatanna’s iconic tux and top hat combo. 

Sofia Boutella

Although Sofia Boutella got her start as a dancer appearing in projects from artists as iconic as Michael Jackson and Madonna, she also has an extremely impressive acting career behind her. She made her film debut as evil henchwoman Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service where her skills with movement captured the imagination of audiences around the world. She went on to book roles in Star Trek Beyond, Atomic Blonde, and the HBO adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 where she starred alongside other DCEU actor Michael Shannon. Boutella’s background as a dancer and gymnast would lend itself well to any action film she decides to take part in, especially a Zatanna movie. 

Emilia Clarke

Rumors were flying last summer that Warner Brothers had already found its Zatanna in Emilia Clarke. Even though those whispers were eventually debunked, fans still believe that the Game of Thrones star is high on the studio’s wishlist for the part. She’s already stepped into the world of popular film franchises with her role as Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story and led the cast of Game of Thrones for eight seasons. If we were looking at experience alone, Emilia Clarke would be the ultimate shoe-in for Zatanna.
