Don’t Worry Darling has finally wrapped since beginning its shoot in late October of 2020. The psychological thriller has already gained several watchful eyes not only because of its star studded cast, but also the efforts of indie favorite director Olivia Wilde. Starring Florence Pugh as a housewife in the 1950s, Don’t Worry Darling, follows Pugh as she discovers her husband played by Harry Styles is hiding a dark secret. Chris Pine also stars as the revered leader of a mysterious, cult-like worksite, while If Beale Street Could Talk breakout star KiKi Layne joins the cast. Other celebrities in mysterious roles are Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, and a rumored cameo from Dita Von Teese. Details on the film are scarce, but the script has been circling around Hollywood for a couple years even making it onto the 2019 Black List. Now that filming has wrapped, director Olivia Wilde has penned a Instagram post thanking her cast and crew.
First, she personally thanked her leading lady Florence Pugh. She called the Black Widow actor a “director’s dream” and went on to talk about how grateful she was for her. Wilde then made a hilarious equation of Pugh’s performance being a cross between a Tom Cruise run and Meryl Streep’s skills. Considering that Pugh is one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood Wilde’s praise is not unfounded. She topped off the adorable tribute with a photo of her embracing her friend.

Next up came the film’s male lead Harry Styles. This is his first on screen role since his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. Throughout the shoot Wilde and Styles struck up a relationship. They were seen holding hands at the wedding of Harry’s manager Jeffrey Azoff a month ago and the duo are still going strong! At the wrap party they were even seen in matching white hoodies while standing next to each other. In her tribute to the Fine Line singer, Olivia praised him for being able to shine in a supporting role. She wrote in her post that men are often taught that they have to be the lead in order to feel more valuable. By playing a supporting character in her female led film, Olivia says Harry was more than happy to step back in order to let Florence Pugh to be center stage.

Olivia topped off her tributes to her actors with longtime friend and colleague Chris Pine. Although the pair have known each other for more than sixteen years this is Olivia’s first time directing Chris. She said that he was incredibly enthusiastic to join the project despite his busy schedule. Upon Wilde’s inquiries he responded with, “yea buddy of course!” She then praised Chris’s ability to deepen the characters he plays without stepping on the toes of others. It is safe to say that this role will show us a whole new dimension to Chris Pine.

If you thought that Olivia Wilde was only making posts about her actors then you would be wrong. As the fact settles in that Don’t Worry Darling’s production is officially wrapped Wilde shared a photo of the production assistants for the film. She called them “the greatest group of PAs in film history” along with a photo of the group of four masked up on a cliff. The post was accompanied by several other photos of PA’s who didn’t make it into the initial shot. Wilde has made sure to credit those who normally don’t get the spotlight in the film industry. This includes her production designer Katie Byron whom she thanked profusely for her work on both Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling. In an earlier post, she shared an artsy photo of her and cinematographer Matthew Libatique. She calls him not only her co-conspirator, but also her hero. It’s amazing to see a director value their team as much as Olivia Wilde does.

As for the release date of Don’t Worry Darling unfortunately it is too early to tell at this point. The film still has to go through the long process of post production, editing, and sound before it can hit our screens. We can expect some more info about a potential release date around the summer or fall of this year.
