Pandora 

Pandora is a tear-jerking Korean thriller film made in 2016 that was directed by Park Jun-woo. Park is known for writing disaster films with a refreshing take. Pandora is about a nuclear meltdown that happens due to an earthquake. However, it focuses on a cast of characters who struggle at the bottom of the social-economical ladder as they are forced to deal with the consequences of the meltdown. This film is fast-paced and will surely keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It is a great way to be entertained while also gaining more insights into Korean culture and society.

The Ritual 

Interested in mythology? Then The Ritual is the right Halloween horror film for you! It is a 2017 British film that incorporates traditional elements from Norse mythology. It follows the story of four college friends who embark on a hike through the Scandinavian wilderness in order to commemorate their late friend. However, things quickly take a wrong turn when they are forced to go off-trail. This is a film with beautiful and suffocating cinematography that will make for an intense viewing experience.

Raw 

Raw is a unique film that merges two unlikely genres – coming of age and horror. It is a 2016 French film about a young vegetarian girl’s first year at veterinary school. What appears to be a coming-of-age story takes a darker turn when the protagonist, Justine, starts to develop a craving for flesh. Raw is a movie with intense and graphic imagery that is definitely not for the faint-hearted. But if you are up for the challenge, this could be the perfect horror film for a movie night with friends!

The Swarm

A lot of people find insects to be gross and scary, and this 2020 French horror film captures that fear perfectly. The Swarm follows the story of a single mom who is breeding locusts as a source of high-protein food. However, she soon discovers that she is not the only one who is looking. This film is guaranteed to give you goosebumps every time you watch it. It will leave you feeling like something is crawling on the back of your neck for the entire night.

The Platform 

The Platform is an unpredictable Spanish horror/science fiction film. The whole film takes place in a “Vertical Self-Management Center” that is meant to reform its residence. The main character, Goreng, checks into the facility without knowing the whole truth – there is only a limited amount of food distributed each day, and where you’re located depends on how much you get. He is forced to face the more ruthless side of humanity as he struggles to survive and maintain his morals. This is a horror film that will leave you deep in thought.
