Damien Power discusses his career on iTalk Movies

iTalk movies is a long-form interview series featuring leading members of the film community. In this episode, our host Kelli Boyt interviews Damien Power on the Popcorn Talk Network.

Damien Power – Writer and Director
Damien grew up in Launceston, Tasmania: pop: 60,000; cinema: 1. It was there, as a
teenager at the local film society, that he fell in love with movies. After completing an
Arts/Law degree in Hobart, he moved to Sydney to take up a position on the
Classification Board at the Office of Film and Literature Classification. He started writing
and directing film soon after he arrived, and having made a few shorts, he enrolled in a
MA in Directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Since graduating he has written and directed several award-winning shorts that have
screened at festivals worldwide including Venice and Busan, MIFF and Sydney as well
as online as part of YouTube/Scott Free’s inaugural Your Film Festival. His films have
been praised for their ‘original voice and distinctive storytelling.’
Damien was awarded an AFTRS Creative fellowship to make a short experimental
drama, HITCHHIKER. KILLING GROUND is Damien Power’s first feature film.
