Gary Gray. The film revolves around the rise and fall of the Compton, California hip hop group N.W.A and borrows its title from the name of their 1988 debut studio album. Depicted in its cast are rappers Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson, Jr.), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell), and manager Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti). The film was released on August 14, 2015 and received highly positive reviews from fans and critics. The real life Ice Cube and Dr. Dre worked with the filmmakers as co-producers. An album inspired by the film, Compton, was released by Dr. Dre on August 7, 2015.
