ABOUT DONALD MOWAT:
Born in Montreal, Canada, to British parents, Donald Mowat is one of the industry’s most sought-after makeup artists. As makeup department head/designer on such films as Blade Runner 2049, Stronger, Sicario, Nightcrawler, Prisoners, The Fighter and 8 Mile and as personal makeup artist for Daniel Craig on Spectre and Skyfall, Donald’s skill and professionalism have kept him in constant demand for the last twenty-five years.
Respected by colleagues, actors, directors and producers alike for the creativity and passion he brings to his craft, Donald’s active contribution to the support and development of new talent is also warmly admired.
He has been an exemplary leader in the film community, serving two terms on the board of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and successfully lobbying the Academy to recognise makeup artists with the annual Canadian Screen Award.
From 2008 until 2014 Donald was also on the board of the Actors’ Fund of Canada, an essential lifeline for those in the performing arts suffering from severe health or financial problems. In 2011, his petition on behalf of their vital work was a major factor in the fund receiving a special Gemini Award for continued service to the television community.
A longtime member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, in 2012 he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Donald volunteers his time for numerous charitable organisations and continues to work with the BAFTA LA membership committee and as a mentor with their outreach program.
While Donald’s career in major studio features enjoys an international reputation at the highest level, both as Head of Department and Personal Makeup Artist, his credits also include independent art house projects. Donald continues to work in editorial, print and theatre as a consulting makeup designer.
