Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd with Cast and Crew talk The Counter: 1960 on iTalk Movies

iTalk movies is a long-form interview series featuring leading members of the film community. In this episode, our host Chae Jones interviews Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd, Jerrod Haynes, Etienne Maurice & Tabitha Brown about The Counter: 1960 on the Popcorn Talk Network.

Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd makes her directorial debut. The Counter: 1960 is the story of six friends working to make a difference in the world they live in. Set in the deep south, they encounter all the challenges of that time period and during their journey employ the methods of peaceful resistance taught by James Lawson, in an attempt to achieve their goals.

This story, beautiful in its simplicity, showcases how far we have come and highlights our appreciation for every person who fought, marched, protested, sat, stood, sang, played, ran, resisted, and existed for our civil rights. That’s also where this story correlates to present day and allows us to see how far we still have to go.

The Dark Tower Review | Anatomy of a Movie

Hosts Phil Svitek (@PDSvitek), Marisa Serafini (@SerafiniTV) and Demetri Panos (@DMovies1701) discuss the 2017 film, The Dark Tower.

The Dark Tower is a 2017 American science fantasy western film directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel. A continuation of Stephen King‘s novel series of the same name, the film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger on a quest to protect the Dark Tower – a mythical structure which supports all realities – and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, Walter o’Dim, the Man in Black.

Intended to launch a film and television franchise, the first installment combines elements from several novels in the eight-volume series, and takes place in both modern-day New York City and in Mid-World, Roland’s Old West-style parallel universe. The film also serves as a canonical sequel to the novel series, which concludes with the revelation that Roland’s quest is a cyclical time loop; the presence of the Horn of Eld, which Roland carries in the film, indicates that this is the next cycle.

The Hurt Locker (2008) Review | Action Movie Anatomy

Action Movie Anatomy hosts Ben Bateman and Andrew Ghai break down 2008’s The Hurt Locker! Follow the show at @AMAPodcast and the hosts @BenBatemanMedia & @AndrewGhai!

The Hurt Locker is a 2008 American war thriller film about an Iraq War Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who are being targeted by insurgents with booby traps, remote control detonations and ambushes. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, it stars Jeremy RennerAnthony MackieBrian GeraghtyChristian CamargoRalph FiennesDavid Morse, and Guy Pearce. The film shows soldiers’ varying psychological reactions to the stress of combat, which though intolerable to some, is addictive to others. The story unfolds after a staff sergeant is killed by an insurgent trap and an apparently calm veteran is brought in to head the squad. His comrades suspect that their new team leader is being driven to take terrifying risks. Writer Mark Boal drew on his experience during embedded access to provide an authentic background for the production, although certain army procedures were portrayed with artistic licence.

The Hurt Locker received widespread critical acclaim and won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Bigelow won the award for Best Director; as of 2017, The Hurt Locker is the sole film by a female director to win in either category.
