‘Wonder Woman 1984’ has been pushed back to Christmas Day, 2020. After making a splash with a new trailer at DC Fandome, DC fans have been waiting all year in anticipation for the sequel of Patty Jenkins’ 2017 superhero hit. Unfortunately, they will now have to wait until the very end of 2020 to see Diana’s next adventure.

Since the coronavirus pandemic shut down theaters in March, “Wonder Woman 1984” has been delayed numerous times. It was originally scheduled for June 5 before moving to Aug. 14 and then Oct. 2. Despite the successful international and domestic box office grosses of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenant,’ there are still a number of movie theaters that have shut down. Without larger numbers to bolster its release ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ and its distributor Warner Brothers remain cautious.

Fans may be feeling disappointed after the delay, but were assured that the film is worth waiting for.

“We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.” Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman, said in a statement.

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ will continue to follow Diana Prince, but instead of the World War I setting of its predecessor, this adventure will take place in the 1980s. Wonder Woman will square off against Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses superhuman strength and agility. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine will each be reprising their roles as Diana Prince and Steve Trevor while the supporting cast includes names like Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal.

What are you most excited to see in this sequel? We know we’ll be waiting  until December 25th!
