Why Taika Waititi is THE Choice For The Next Star Wars Movie

There hasn’t been a single Star Wars movie that is as unanimously loved and appreciated since the Return of the Jedi. That’s 36 years of arguments, criticism and controversy over arguably the most beloved franchise in history. But Disney can change all that by hiring one person.

Granted, controversy comes with the territory and it’s impossible to please everyone, but there has been one thing that just feels right amongst Star Wars fans. That is The Mandalorian, and more specifically, the finale of season 1 of The Mandalorian

Who can we thank for that? First and foremost, Jon Favreau, who is already completely integrated and loved in the Star Wars universe, and we’re better because of it. But then there’s Taika Waititi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok.

Not only did Waititi play the hell out of the incredible nurse droid known as IG-11, both keeping Baby Yoda safe and sacrificing himself for the survival of the group, he also directed the episode which was many viewers’ favorite of the entire season.

At the end of the day, we’ll all end up watching anything Star Wars and find pieces to love, but if we’re being honest, it has been a “maclunkey” ride for the past few decades. If I’m Disney, I’m taking notes from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and then getting down on one knee, proposing to Waititi and having him take the creative reigns on at least one movie.

Right now, Waititi has the midas touch. Whatever he’s doing is working and my bet’s on him!
