Disney has recently hopped on the trend of remaking their old animated princess movies in live action, starting with Aurora in Maleficent in 2014, then Cinderella (2015), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and most recently Mulan (2020). Next up is The Little Mermaid, which will star Halle Bailey of musical duo Chloe x Halle, but here are the top five Disney princesses that should get a live action remake after that.

  1. Coming in at number five is the last one of the classic Disney princesses without a remake yet, Snow White! Snow White has popped up in a few live action movies not made by Disney, such as Mirror Mirror starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts and Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. However, the stories in these movies are not the same as the original Disney film, and fans are eagerly anticipating a live action adaptation made by Disney for this reason.

  1. “If you had the chance to change your fate, would ya?” Disney should definitely change their fate for the better by making a live action version of Brave, with everyone’s favorite red haired heroine Merida. The 2012 film won the Oscar for Best Animated Film and follows a young princess who defies custom by refusing to marry and must try to save her mother from a horrible curse.

  1. It may be a controversial decision to put Tangled in the middle of this list rather than at number one, but I’m sticking to it. The dearly beloved 2010 film tells the story of Princess Rapunzel and the mischievous Flynn Rider as they go on adventures unbeknownst to Rapunzel’s evil guardian Mother Gothel. Fun fact: Disney named this movie Tangled instead of Rapunzel to be more gender neutral for marketing, a trend that continued with 2012’s Brave.

  1. The most recent animated Disney princess movie, Moana would be a very fun live action remake to see on the big screen. Moana is a strong willed Polynesian girl who feels the ocean calling to her. She goes on a journey to find legendary demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, of course) and get the goddess Te Fiti to save her island. Featuring the music of Hamilton’s Lin Manuel Miranda, Moana is a must when it comes to live action remakes.

  1. My personal favorite recent Disney princess movie is The Princess and the Frog, and boy would it be great as live action. In the 2009 film, a hard working waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans turns into a frog after she kisses the frog form of Prince Naveen who has been cursed by Dr. Facilier’s voodoo. The two frogs travel far and wide, meet other animal friends, and learn the power of true love in order to return to their human forms before they’re stuck as frogs forever. A beautiful and moving story featuring excellent music and the first Black Disney princess, The Princess and the Frog is a no brainer as the number one Disney princess movie that should get a live action remake.
