With Labor Day marking the unofficial end of summer, it’s time to get ready for fall — and, more importantly, Halloween. Whether you’re planning on frightening friends or screaming solo, here are the top 10 best Halloween movies available to stream now!

Compass International Pictures

  1. You can’t have a list about Halloween movies without including the movie Halloween! This classic horror film from 1978 featuring serial killer Michael Myers inspired a long line of slasher films, including the 2018 sequel also called Halloween featuring original cast members Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle. With two sequels to this 2018 film set to release in 2021 and 2022, now is the perfect time to catch up by watching the film that started it all.

Colombia Pictures

  1. Next on the list is cult classic The Craft, a film about four outcast teenage girls who form their own coven and study witchcraft until it eventually becomes their downfall. The film stars Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True, and is also getting a reboot which was announced in 2019. The Craft is a campy flick about strong women that deserves a spot at every girls’ night Halloween.

Dimension Films

  1. Coming in at number 8 is another Neve Campbell cult classic film from 1996, Scream. Scream, directed by Wes Craven of A Nightmare on Elm Street, is well known for subverting the typical slasher genre by adding elements of black comedy and self awareness. This first movie in a series of four also stars Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowan, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard, and the franchise is set to receive a fifth installment in 2022.

20th Century Fox

  1. The first but certainly not the last Tim Burton film on this list is Edward Scissorhands, starring Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp. This film tells the story of Edward (Depp) who, you guessed it, has scissor blades for hands, and falls in love with the innocent suburban girl Kim (Ryder). The film’s beautiful story, costuming, makeup, and production design earned it nominations at the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and more, so this 1990 film is definitely a must watch for Halloween. While you’re at it, watch Beetlejuice, also by Tim Burton, too!

Paramount Pictures

  1. The Addams Family (*snap* *snap*) is a Halloween favorite black comedy starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci. The 1991 film is based on the original cartoon and 1964 television series of the same name, and follows a family that revels in the dark and twisted. The Addams Family is a satirical inversion of the idea of the ideal 20th century American family and has inspired countless Halloween costumes, so watch the movie behind it all this Halloween!

Warner Bros. / Roadshow Entertainment

  1. Witches deserve love too, fans of Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman would agree. The two actresses play witch sisters, outsiders in a close-minded town, whose family curse means that the men they fall in love with are doomed. Despite poor critical reception at its initial release in 1998, this RomCom has since become a beloved cult classic that is perfect for the season.

Walt Disney Studios

  1. Now we’re getting to the good stuff. Coming in at number four is another film by the king of Halloween, Tim Burton: The Nightmare Before Christmas. This beautiful stop motion animated film follows the story of Jack the Pumpkin King of HalloweenTown, who discovers Christmas Town and becomes obsessed with the joyful cheer of Christmas rather than the macabre of Halloween. The Nightmare Before Christmas was the first animated film to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and is perfect for all ages with fun songs and scary galore. Fans of this film might also enjoy Corpse Bride, another spooky stop motion film from Tim Burton.

  1. Although it wasn’t an initial success, Hocus Pocus has become one of the first movies most people think of when it comes to Halloween. Starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, the film tells the tale of three witches who were accidentally resurrected and now must suck the souls of every child in Salem, Massachusetts to avoid disintegrating. This premise might sound horrifying, but the comedy shines through in this fun 90’s film.

  1. Twitches stars iconic twins Tia and Tamera Mowry as, you guessed it, twin witches! Based on a book series of the same name, the film follows twins who were separated at birth and must reunite to save the world in which they were born and where their birth mother still lives. Twitches and its sequel Twitches Too were huge parts of my (and I’m sure many others’) childhood, and are some of the best Halloween movies out there. Tamera even hinted at the possibility for a Twitches 3 in a recent Instagram live, so get watching!

Disney Channel

1.And now for the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the number one best Halloween movie available for streaming now: Halloweentown! (& sequels Halloweentown II, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown). The series follows a girl who learns she’s a witch and her adventures both in our world and the world of the titular Halloweentown, which is home to supernatural creatures galore. The Halloweentown films are definitely my favorite things to watch to get into the Halloween spirit, and are a whole lot of nostalgic and festive fun.
