DC Movie News Loves Zack Snyder!

After three years of campaigning, hundreds of thousands of tweets, and consistent, relentless commentary in the entertainment zeitgeist – Warner Bros. has officially announced plans to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut on HBOMAX in 2021.

The announcement came this morning, following a Man of Steel Watchalong with Director Zack Snyder on his app VERO. Once the watchalong ended, Superman himself, actor Henry Cavill joined the call! Zack turned his camera to the the screen on which he was projecting Man of Steel, only to reveal this poster:

It was then that the internet exploded.

Aquaman Star Jason Mamoa also shared the picture on his instagram and shared a video reaction on his story that you can see here:

Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Quote tweeted Snyder writing “Congratualtions you deserve this.”

Actor Joe Manganiello who appeared as “Deathstroke” in the after credit for Batman v Superman tweeted about the “original end credit scene…” Could this mean we would have gotten Deathstroke and Batman?!

“Snyder” is the number 2 word trending in the US.

This “victory” for the fans and director is truly remarkable, but begs the question: What does this mean for the future of fan reactions to Hollywood blockbusters? The answer might be simple. Follow the money. This movement grew at such a consistent rate over the past three years and peaked this past November when cast members Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, and Jason Mamoa all tweeted “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut”. It became next-to impossible for WB not to notice. Who could have guessed it? Actually, we here at Popcorn Talk did six months ago here.

In addition to the added pressure for WB to enter the streaming wars and compete with what is already out there; “HBOMAX” does not have as impressive a catalog as their competitors. Lastly, the virus. Nearly all studio production has been halted and might stay that way for sometime. How convenient would it be if there was an alternate cut of a comic-book blockbuster that only needs Post-Work? The narrative around “The Snyder Cut” has drastically changed from a fan day-dream to a studio no-brainer.

This fabled adventure just reached its climax. Congratulations to Zack Snyder, all the followers of the movement, and to movie fans in general! This is a moment. It just goes to show Zack Snyder has given the people of earth an ideal to strive towards. Fans raced behind him, they stumbled, they fell. But with time, we have joined him in the sun. With time we have all helped accomplish wonders.
