It’s been 15 years since the release of Twilight, making Bella Swan and Edward Cullen one of our favorite fantasy fiction couples.
The creator of the popular franchise, Stephenie Meyer, is taking us back to Forks, Washington. She has announced that she is releasing a prequel called Midnight Sun, which will be available on August 4th.
Meyer has expressed on her website and to Good Morning America that the story needs to be told through Edward’s perspective.
“Though I didn’t have time to work on it right away, the idea of letting Edward have his chance to speak stuck with me. I couldn’t shake it. I found myself thinking his words in the middle of the night and jotting down phrases he would use while I was waiting in line at the post office. As soon as I finished my real work, I sat down and let Edward get his say.”
As writers, we understand when we get an idea that sticks with us and we have to start writing it out on paper. According to Yahoo Entertainment, Meyer’s has had this idea since 2008.
We can’t wait to relive one of our favorite romance novels, but this time, through the eyes of the mysterious Edward Cullen. Which could result in a darker twist to Edward and Bella’s iconic love story.
As fans, we were always wondering what Edward was doing when he skipped school those first few days when he discovered he couldn’t read Bella’s thoughts.
We’re even hoping Meyers takes us further back, before Edward was a vampire, showing us what his life was like as a regular human. Then, after Carlisle turns him into a vampire, we want more details on the struggles Edward had to face and how he couldn’t control his thirst for human blood. Gradually leading up to the moments he first laid eyes on Bella Swan.

We’re sure Meyers has thought of every detail and had the same questions we did. We hope Midnight Sun will go more in depth with the original story of Twilight.
To play devil’s advocate, if Midnight Sun wasn’t a prequel and was considered the “official” next chapter of Breaking Dawn, then here are a few ideas on where the story should pick back up.
Bella and Edward’s daughter, Renesmee Cullen, is now a Junior in high school. She’s struggling, finding herself as half vampire and half human.
Jacob Black, who imprinted on Renesmee the day she was born, has stuck by her side ever since. Unfortunately, Renesmee views him as her big “protective” older brother. However, the older Renesmee gets the more she’s starting to develop feelings for him.
Plus, it wouldn’t be a Twilight Saga if there wasn’t a love triangle. There would be a new vampire named Liam that just set foot in Forks and has an attraction towards Renesmee. Instead of Bella Swan being the new teenager in town, Laim will take on this role.
Renesmee is not only struggling to be a “normal” teenage girl but accepting that she is half vampire. Liam (who is automatically the cool guy in school) steps in to help boost her confidence but tries to disconnect her from her human side. Renesmee grows a strong connection with Liam and feels like he is the only one that fully understands her.
Liam appears to be perfect on the outside but was raised by the Volturi’s and secretly has his own mission to take down the Cullens (we can’t expect there to be peace after Breaking Dawn).
Jacob senses that Liam doesn’t have the best intentions for Renesmee and tries to find his real motives in pursuing her. This will result in another epic battle between the werewolf and vampire (but this time around, we’re team Jacob).
Jacob isn’t the only one who has his guard up about Liam. Edward and Bella have their own concerns for his attraction towards their daughter, not knowing he was sent by the Volturi’s.
Also, we can’t forget about Alice who acts like a second mom towards Renesmee when she can’t open up with Bella about her conflicting feelings towards Jacob.
Trying to tell your mom you have feelings with someone that used to love her when she was a teenager can be a weird conversation to have. That’s why there’s Alice, who is also thinking about starting her own family with Jasper.

That would be my take on how the Twilight Saga continues and the development of the characters. Maybe Meyer’s will consider writing another book after Midnight Sun to continue her legacy in the franchise.
Be sure to check out Midnight Sun on August 4th and follow Stephenie Meyer on social media to keep up to date with more of her projects.
