If you’re a fan of classic comedies, you may be familiar with the name Leslie Dixon.

Dixon is the mastermind screenwriter behind some of the all-time best family and romantic comedies. She is known not only for original screenplays, but for successfully writing screen adaptations.

Dixon’s first-ever screenplay was titled Outrageous Fortune, which she wrote for Cheers actress Shelley Long to star. It was released in 1987 and kickstarted her writing career. From there, she went on to co-write and produce the 1989 film, Loverboy. Starring Patrick Dempsey, Carrie Fisher, and other notable actors, this film was a major win for the screenwriter.

While Loverboy was a well-accredited and mainstream film, some of Dixon’s other work might be more familiar to you. In fact, she wrote a certain 1993 screenplay starring Robin Williams as a father who goes undercover as a housekeeper in an attempt to be closer to his three children. Can you guess the film?

If you said Mrs. Doubtfire, you are correct!

Based on a novel by Anne Fine, Dixon adapted the text for the screen, allowing Mrs. Doubtfire to become a massively hit film. In another of her larger films, Dixon adapted the novel Freaky Friday into the well-known, onscreen film released in 2003. Starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, this film was an instant favorite for young adults and teens everywhere. In a restaurant mishap, the two switch bodies and face the difficulties of their mother-daughter relationship.

In more recent years, Leslie Dixon has co-produced shows such as Limitless. However, don’t fear, she does still write! Credited on her IMDB page, Dixon co-wrote the 2018 romantic comedy film, Overboard, with Bob Fisher and director Rob Greenberg. This film stars Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez. It is certainly worth the watch if you are a fan of Leslie Dixon’s other films!

We are so thankful for all the amazing films brought to us by Leslie and hope for more to come!
