Pull out your tuxedos and gowns, Netflix is taking us to The Prom this December!

The first official trailer for the highly anticipated Netflix musical The Prom has been released, and we’re thrilled to see such a star-studded cast.

Directed by Ryan Murphy, the film is an adaptation of the Broadway play with the same name, which tells the story of self-absorbed Broadway stars that will be played by celebrities Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Andrew Rannells, and James Corden. Who’s characters travel to a small town in Indiana to help a teenager named Emma, played by Jo Ellen Dellman, when she is not allowed to take her girlfriend Alyssa, played by Ariana DeBose, to prom.

This won’t be the first time some of these celebrities have starred in such musicals. Streep starred in Mama Mia and Into the Woods, alongside fellow actor and television host Cordon, who is no stranger to performing and singing.

Kidman also made her musical debut in Moulin Rouge, which earned her an Academy Award nomination.

So one thing that can be certain is these stars will definitely not disappoint with their musical numbers. The trailer is filled with numerous dance and singing scenes and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for these characters.

Hopefully, we will get some iconic singing scenes between the characters and possibly an solo performance by Meryl Streep.

From the looks of the trailer, hopefully, we will also see an array of exciting and colorful costumes.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly director, Ryan Murphy said, “I wanted to make something that was in tradition of the old movie musicals that I grew up loving with my grandmother. I wanted to make something that had the sparkle and the charm and humor of Singin’ in the Rain. That’s a show business story. It’s a look at the inside of the film world, as opposed to The Prom, which looks at the Broadway community, but when you saw the musical on Broadway, it is just full steam ahead and never stops. I loved that quality because it did feel old-fashioned and modern.”

Overall, The Prom should be an exciting film to look forward to and will be releasing on Netflix on December 11th.
