The shortlist nominees in nine categories have arrived, pulling Hollywood and the rest of the world into all the excitement buzzing around the Oscars!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the shortlist nominations for, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Visual Effects.
Some highlights include “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II and “A Glass of Soju” from The Parasite for best original song, Avengers: Endgame and Ford v Ferrari for best original score, and Joker and Bombshell for best makeup and hairstyling.
Many seemed flabbergasted to see Parasite made the list with the movie’s own original song. Yet it’s not surprising that a film which has already transcended genres would also have originally composed music. For those who have seen the movie, this song appears as part of the end credits and was written by the film’s very own director, Bong Joon Ho. You can listen to the song on YouTube here.
“Spirit” from The Lion King, sung by Beyoncé who voiced the part of Nala, has been nominated for best original song as well. This has made some hopeful we’ll see Beyoncé perform live at the Oscars.

Voting for the Oscar nominations begins on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 and will end on January 7th, 2020. The nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13th, 2020.
