What is Broadway star Josh Gad doing in between voicing blockbuster films, starring in 2 comedies (Avenue 5, Central Park) and starring in the Untitled Beauty and the Beast series that he’s also billed as co-creator, co-writer, and executive-producer on?  He’s created a new Youtube show called Reunited Apart With Josh Gad where, as he so eloquently states “It is my sincerest hope that catching up with some old friends of all of us will bring some much needed joy to each and every single one of you.”

Episode 1, The Goonies Are Back!! | Reunited Apart with Josh Gad aired April 27th, and saw the reunion of cast members from 1985’s classic film The Goonies. As with the state of most media right now, this occasion was done via video conference in the safety of everyone’s homes.  He prefaces the introduction of guests with having seen the film as a child. “In 1985 a movie was released into, what at the time was called, a movie theatre. A movie theatre was a place where people would go and sit within 6 feet of each other and share popcorn and a box of candy; occasionally make out, from what I understand, sounds crazy.”  While I laughed out loud at this description it also made me a little sad and even fearful as to what the future of movie going holds. It was already in a state of decline due to streaming services and now with Covid 19, as with everything else, the experience of going to the movies is unquestionably up in the air.

It’s clear Josh is a fanboy of The Goonies and that’s what makes watching this show a joy.  Along with its director and its producer, actors Sean Astin, Corey Feldman Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Ke Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, Kerri Green, Robert Davi, producer Steven Spielberg, writer Chris Columbus, director Richard Donner and the movie’s soundtrack singer Cyndi Lauper joined the panel. You can clearly see how much they loved making the film and how much they love one another.

Every episode also focuses on supporting a charity and this one benefits The Center For Disease Philanthropy which has raised over $30,000! Enjoy The Goonies Are Back!! reunion and donate to this organization that is at the center of this pandemic in providing life saving essentials to those in need.

And, ok, full disclosure; I’ve never seen The Goonies. HOWEVER, after seeing this reunion, as Steven Spielberg says at the end of the show, “I’m going to go right into the other room, right now, and I’m going to watch Goonies!”
