A Global Pandemic couldn’t stop this film about a girl whose nightmarish curse causes her exes to drop like flies.

Hollywood is slowly but surely finding its way back to normalcy.  We know that many productions halted due to the coronavirus outbreak and some, like THE BATMAN, began again only to have lead actor, Robert Pattinson, test positive for covid-19 which shut down production for a second time.

Actor Ser’darius Blain (Jumanji, Footloose) couldn’t wait to get back to work and was cast in a horror feature that decided to continue filming with meticulous covid restrictions.

“We filmed The Knocking in quarantine and it was scary!” says Blain

The Knocking also stars Alexis Knapp [Pitch Perfect] and Shiloh Fernandez [Evil Dead]

and follows a cursed young woman whose ex boyfriends just..keep…dying

Originally slated to shoot in April, the project accomplished a 19-day principal photography schedule in August.

Concerns over COVID-19 completely foiled the April shoot before a single scene was filmed.  Producer Maurice Fadida said four different actors who had previously signed on for the film dropped out at the last minute for fear of returning to work during a pandemic. But for those that stayed on board, the outcome was a finished project with a safe and happy cast and crew.

Blain tells me via Facebook Messenger audio, “The rules were strict, we were covid tested three times a week, we had to maintain social distance the entire time we weren’t filming.”

Scenes that would usually be harmoniously pieced together by different departments in one room had to be adjusted to keep safe social distancing. Crew were permitted on set with protective gear in a “carousel” fashion to keep a minimal population. The use of an air flow machine was mandated at all times for health and safety. Directors were placed at least 300 yards away from talent and screened remotely.

In regard to the social distancing Blain adds, “Not having the social aspect was hard to get acclimated to but in the end, I’m just glad to be able to do what I love.”

The Knocking is currently in Post-Production.
