This is the anthem, throw all your hands up—a Charlie’s angel has just welcomed her first child into the world!

Cameron Diaz and her husband Benjamin Madden, better known as lead guitarist and backup vocalist for the band Good Charlotte, recently announced the birth of their baby girl.

The couple, wed privately in a Jewish ceremony back in 2015, have been especially quiet about their marriage life, so the baby news comes as a surprise.

“Happy New Year from the Maddens!” Diaz announced on her Instagram page. “We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden.”

Diaz shared her joy with the world while making it clear she wished to protect their daughter’s privacy, and therefore she would refrain from posting any pictures. Their daughter, Raddix, is their first child.

Diaz and Madden, who had known of each other through Nicole Richie—Madden’s sister-in-law and a friend of Diaz—officially met at a party back in 2014 and began dating shortly afterward.

In an interview with InStyle in August of 2019, Diaz hinted she wanted to take more time for herself and didn’t want to get sucked into the dependency of checking her phone every second of the day. She also stressed feeling satisfied with her decision to step back from Hollywood after spending over twenty-five years in the public eye.

“I started [experiencing fame] when I was twenty-two, so twenty-five years ago,” Diaz admitted in the article, “that’s a long time. The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to. I don’t miss performing.”

In a statement which seems to indirectly speak about her pregnancy, Diaz added, “But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about — something that just feels effortless.”

We know now that Diaz’s plans included entering the next decade as a mother and focusing on the care of her child.

Diaz ended the InStyle magazine interview by talking about her husband.

“Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Diaz said. “My husband’s the best. He’s the greatest human being, and he’s my great partner.”

While we’re all sad we won’t be getting any pictures of Baby Raddix anytime soon, Diaz has remained active on her Instagram—including posting a picture of a My Best Friend’s Wedding reunion—so be sure to follow her there for ongoing updates!
