Rick Gonzalez, one of the stars of CW’s Arrow, is living his lifelong dream as an actor in Hollywood. As a young child, Gonzalez would put on improvised shows for his family and act in all the school plays. His roles have gotten much bigger since then, as Timo Cruz in Coach Carter and Ben Gonzalez in CW’s Reaper. He has been on Arrow for two seasons as superhero Wild Dog/Rene Ramirez. As a latino in Hollywood, Gonzalez isn’t worried about being typecast. instead, he sees every role as an opportunity to do a job he loves.

The Boondock Saints (1999)… is a “Guilty Movie Pleasure”

Popcorn Talk Network proudly presents a vodcast that offers a glimpse into the movies we love to watch with breakdown and analysis of the movies some might call… a “Guilty Movie Pleasure”. Join us each week as Ben Begley and Jesse McIntosh breakdown your favorite films, from the classics to the yet to be seen; it’s all here under one banner… GUILTY MOVIE PLEASURES!

This week, Jesse and Ben talk about The Boondocks Saints (1999)!

The Boondock Saints is a 1999 American crime film written and directed by Troy Duffy, and produced by Chris Brinker. The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as fraternal twins, Connor and Murphy MacManus, who become vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian Mafia in self-defense. After both experience an epiphany, the brothers, together with their friend “Funny Man” (David Della Rocco), set out to rid their home city of Boston, Massachusetts of crime and evil, all while being pursued by FBI Agent Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe).

Duffy indicates that the screenplay was inspired by personal experience, while living in Los Angeles. Initially regarded as one of the hottest scripts in Hollywood, the movie had a troubled production and was finally given a limited theatrical release of only five theaters for one week due to the Columbine High School massacre. It was met with poor critical reviews; however, the film ultimately grossed about $50 million in domestic video sales and developed a large cult following. The movie was followed by a 2009 sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, and a third film is currently in development.
