Hail, Caesar! | Anatomy of a Movie

Hosts Marisa Serafini (@SerafiniTV), Demetri Panos (@DMovies1701), Zach Wilson (@ThatZachWilson) and Phil Svitek (@PDSvitek) discuss the 2016 Ethan Coen & Joel Coen Film, Hail Caesar!

A Hollywood fixer in the 1950s works to keep the studio’s stars in line. In the early 1950s, Eddie Mannix is busy at work trying to solve all the problems of the actors and filmmakers at Capitol Pictures. His latest assignments involve a disgruntled director, a singing cowboy, a beautiful swimmer and a handsome dancer. As if all this wasn’t enough, Mannix faces his biggest challenge when Baird Whitlock gets kidnapped while in costume for the swords-and-sandals epic “Hail, Caesar!” If the studio doesn’t pay $100,000, it’s the end of the line for the movie star.

Walt Disney Pictures originally announced the film under the working title 1952, and later retitled it to Tomorrowland, after the futuristic themed land found at Disney theme parks. Bird and Lindelof’s screenplay was heavily influenced by Walt Disney‘s optimistic philosophy of innovation and utopia, such as his conceptual vision for the planned community known as EPCOT. Tomorrowland was released in conventional and IMAX formats on May 22, 2015, and was the first theatrical film to be released in Dolby Vision. Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews from critics and performed below expectations at the box office.
