Marianna Palka on iTalk Movies

iTalk movies is a long-form interview series featuring leading members of the film community. In this episode, our host Blake V. interviews Marianna Palka on the Popcorn Talk Network.

 

Marianna Palka is a Scottish producer, director, writer, and actress. She is the writer, director and star of the film Good Dick, which screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

Palka produced, wrote, directed, and starred in the movie Good Dick opposite her longtime boyfriend at the time, Jason Ritter. The film also featured Martin Starr, Mark Webber, Charles Durning, and Tom Arnold. The film was shot on digital video in the fall of 2006 and had a budget of approximately US$200,000. It premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and at the 2008 Edinburgh Film Festival and was released in the United States in 2009.

At the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, Palka was a Sloan Juror with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

In 2001, Palka appeared in Peter Mullan’s film, Neds. Palka played the lead role of JEVA in director Jeremiah Jones independent film Restive. She appeared in the short Spoonful by director Jenee LaMarque and in Bryce Dallas Howard’s second film, When You Find Me. She played a Scottish book store worker/hipster in director Nathan Sutton’s film Autumn Wanderer. She starred in director Sylvia Sether’s short film, King Of Norway. As of 2017, Palka appears as Reggie ‘Vicky the Viking’ Walsh in the Netflix TV series, GLOW.

Tom Cross, Film Editor – I Blame Dennis Hopper

“I Blame Dennis Hopper” is film aficionado and historian Illeana Douglas’ vodcast featuring exclusive interviews, discussion, and topical commentary from one of the industry’s most respected artists.

Tom Cross is an American television and film editor. He began his career in 1997 as an assistant editor, contributing to such diverse projects as We Own the Night (2007), Crazy Heart (2009), The Switch (2010) and the Primetime Emmy Award-winning drama series Deadwood. He came to worldwide prominence in 2015 when he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing, BAFTA Award for Best Editing, and Academy Award for Best Editing (among other honors) for his work on the acclaimed film Whiplash (2014). He has cited The Wild Bunch (1969) and The French Connection (1971) as influences on the editing of this film, and reunited with writer/director Damien Chazelle on the romantic comedy La La Land (2016).

female shooter in history. She is the first summer olympian to win a
medal at six-straight olympic games, and the first olympian ever to
win an olympic medal on five continents. She began competing at 10
years of age and first won gold at the 1996 olympics in Atlanta at 17
years old, becoming the youngest gold medal winner shooter in American
history. She also won gold in 2004 and 2012, as well as silver in 2008
and bronze in 2000 and 2016.

Amanda Wyss, Actress – I Blame Dennis Hopper

Amanda Wyss is an American film and television actress. She began her career in the early 1980s and first gained notice for her role as Lisa in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). She then rose to international prominence after playing Tina Gray in the fantasy film A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). She subsequently starred in Silverado (1985), Better Off Dead (1985), Powwow Highway (1989), Shakma (1990), and The Id (2016). Outside of film, Wyss has guest starred on a variety of television series including Cheers (1985-1986), Charmed (1999), and Dexter (2006). Wyss is also known for her role as Randi McFarland in the television series Highlander: The Series (1992-1993).

Wonder Woman is a 2017 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe. Gal Gadot stars as the titular character with Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya in supporting roles. Wonder Woman is the second live action theatrical film featuring the titular character, following her debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jenkins’ role as director makes her the first female director of a studio superhero movie.
